The Alberta Potters' Association invite you to apply for our 2023 juried exhibition, APA Teapot Show 2023. Our exhibition will take place on May 11th, 2023 at The Naked Leaf in Calgary, Alberta, All teapots entered into the show must be for sale. The consignment split for sold items is 30% to the APA and 70% to the artist. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at The Naked Leaf as it is open to the public from 6-10 pm. Winners are expected to be at the show at 7pm to receive their awards.
Please apply with any teapot, functional or sculptural, to our exhibition. To be considered, work must be minimum 75% ceramic. You may submit up to 2 pieces. There is a non-refundable submission fee of $20 CAD per submission and $10 CAD for APA members per submission. This call is open to all clay artists no matter where you reside.
This is a juried exhibition. You may submit up to 2 pieces. Not all submissions are guaranteed entry to the show. There will be three jurors forming our jury committee. An educator, Robin DuPont, a professional potter and member of the APA, Susan Thorpe and a knowledgeable community member, Trudy Bond.
Jurors are asked to review the teapots on the following criteria:
Artists will submit their entries through ArtCall for the APA Teapot show. Artists must select the appropriate category for each piece from the drop down menu and will be judged accordingly. You are responsible for ensuring all entry information submitted for APA Teapot Show is true and correct. All artworks must be original and made by the artist applying. If applying with a collaborative piece, all artists must be notified and listed as makers within the description of the application. Artwork must have been created within the last 2 years and not previously shown with the APA.
After the closing date April 7th, our jury committee will complete the process and artists will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email by April 21st 2023. Physical items must be delivered to Calgary, Alberta, Canada by May 5th, 2023. All work must be mailed in or delivered in a box or container ready for transport, clearly labeled with the Artist's name and contents.
All communications regarding the APA Teapot show will be made through ArtCall. Please check your junk and spam folders often and add ArtCall.org as a contact to ensure nothing is missed.
Accepted works will be eligible to win one of 4 prizes during our exhibition. Best Functional Teapot, Best Sculptural Teapot, Best Student Teapot and People's Choice Award. Winners of each category will be notified before the event and presented with their prize at our in-person event at Naked Leaf in Calgary, AB on May 11th, 2023. If the winner is not present, the prize will be mailed. If upon the arrival of artwork, it becomes clear that the image file submitted was altered or is in violation of any of the guidelines and rules stated in this prospectus, the work will automatically be disqualified and shipped back to the artists at their expense. Entry fees will not be refunded. The APA reserves the right of refusal of any work that is not professional quality. NO seconds, cracks or flaws will be accepted when work is received in Calgary. Work must be finished and not in green or bisque state. Please apply with your best work. Work that arrives late will also not be accepted.
Any unsold work from our in-person exhibition will be listed on the APA Website for sale from May 15-June 16, 2023. Unsold work after this period will be mailed 2 weeks after the show. Sold work from online sale and payments will be mailed 2 weeks after online sale. APA will pay for shipping of unsold work after the 1 month online sale. Artists are responsible for costs associated with delivery of accepted work.

This is a juried show. The application fee of $20/$10CAD is non-refundable. Accepted work will be shipped to Calgary at the artists' expense. If sold during the exhibition the consignment split is 30% to APA and 70% to the artist. Cheques will be mailed 2 weeks after the show. Any unsold local work will be delivered/picked up one week after the show. Any unsold work not from Calgary will be shipped back to the artist from the APA. The APA is not responsible for any damaged work in transit. If work is damaged during the exhibition the artist will be paid out their 70%.
